When it comes to makeup, your primer and foundation set the stage for everything else you put on your face. You want your skin to look clear and glowing in your pictures, not washed out and dull. The primer and foundation you use can make or break your skin in pictures. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate an entire article on my favorite makeup for flawless photos.

BEST PRIMERS:

Hourglass Veil Primer

$54 on Sephora

With a texture unlike any other, this silky primer extends the wear of makeup while also concealing redness, minimizing the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, and providing broad spectrum SPF 15 for a perfect complexion that lasts.

It leaves a smooth, even surface so that foundation effortlessly glides on and stays put for all-day makeup wear. This unique primer has an airy, silky cloud-like texture and layers onto skin without added weight or a greasy after feel.

It delivers Broad Spectrum SPF 15 sun protection with mineral-derived sunscreens. It’s ideal for all skin types, even sensitive, blemish-prone skin, and it repels water so makeup stays looks freshly applied all day long.

Angel Veil Primer

$16 on Nyxcosmetics

This super silky, light and fresh formula creates a comfortable cushion on your skin to enhance makeup application. The incredible formula creates a smooth uniform canvas that minimizes shine and makes application flawless. Your skin will feel like it has been touched by an angel.

BEST FOUNDATIONS:

Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Foundation

$55 on Sephora

Give skin flawless full coverage in an instant with this foundation concentrate. This revolutionary formula offers twice as much pigment as a leading full-coverage foundation, but in an oil-free base that blends instantly across the complexion to completely cover pores, blemishes, and other imperfections with the thinnest possible layer that lasts up to 24 hours. All foundations are composed of two parts: pigment and ingredients to carry the pigment to the skin.

Re(marc)able innovates by filling its formula with as much pigment as possible, leaving little room for non-essential ingredients, including water.

Not only does it contain twice as much pigment as standard, full-coverage foundations, but these pigments are made of patented golden mica to give the complexion a more radiant, natural-looking glow.

The pigments are wrapped in lecithin—an ingredient with a texture that feels similar to the skin—to blend effortlessly and meld with the complexion for a smooth, soft-matte finish.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation

Confidence is one of those elusive characteristics. It’s easy to spot when someone has it, but it is hard to pinpoint what exact steps one should take to reach a certain level of confidence.

It is a quality that everyone has access to, yet many struggle to achieve it. We are here to provide you with the best confidence resources out there to help you better understand confidence so that you can achieve your own confidence goals.

What is confidence?

First and foremost, what is confidence? Confidence can be described as a belief in one’s ability to succeed. Too much confidence can cause a person to be perceived as arrogant and unapproachable, but too little is often perceived as incompetence and lack of skill. Both extremes can make way for poor judgment in decision making. Finding the right balance is extremely important.

Why does it matter?

Confidence can be the determining factor between success and failure. Lack of confidence often leads to lack of action. In order to be successful in your career, it is vital that you are confident in your decisions. In this article, Lifehacker has provided a few ways that tangibly improving your own self confidence manifests in real-world benefits.

Books on Confidence

Here are our top 10 books to read on confidence.

  1. Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway: How to Turn Your Fear and Indecision into Confidence and Action by Susan Jeffers
  2. Step Up: Confidence, Success and Your Stellar Career in 10 Minutes a Day by Phanella Mayall Fine
  3. Overcoming Low Self-Esteem, 2nd Edition: A Self-Help Guide Using Cognitive Behavioral Techniques by Dr. Melanie Fennell
  4. How to Develop Self-confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie
  5. Ultimate Confidence: The Secrets to Feeling Great About Yourself Every Day by Marisa Peer
  6. Black Box Thinking: Marginal Gains and the Secrets of High Performance by Matthew Syed
  7. Mindset: How You Can Fulfill Your Potential by Carol Dweck
  8. The Little Book Of Confidence by Susan Jeffers
  9. The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman
  10. Overcoming Social Anxiety & Shyness by Gillian Butler

Confidence Quotes

The right quote at the right time can be extremely powerful. Here are a few of our favorites to boost your self confidence.

  1. Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.― Lao Tzu

  2. Life is ten percent what you experience and ninety percent how you respond to it. ― Dorothy M. Neddermeyer

  3. Noble and great. Courageous and determined. Faithful and fearless. That is who you are and who you have always been. And understanding it can change your life, because this knowledge carries a confidence that cannot be duplicated any other way.― Sheri L. Dew

  4. Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing.- Theodore Roosevelt

  5. Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained. – Marie Curie

  6. One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.- Arthur Ashe

  7. To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don’t wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now. – Alan Cohen

  8. Think like a queen. A queen if not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness. – Oprah

  9. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. – Marianne Williamson

  10. You are the only person on earth who can use your ability. – Zig Ziglar

Hopefully, these confidence resources will be just what the doctor ordered and allow you to take your business to the next level. If there is one thing we can be sure of, it is that confidence is contagious. So lead by example, and let the rest follow.

Branding Photography, Cheryl SabanDo you find it difficult to comprehend the basics of branding?

With these 7 tips, you’ll be able to understand the basics of branding in under 3 minutes!

  1. Create, or pay someone to make an eye-catching logo. Put it everywhere.

  1. Write down your brand mission. What do you want to communicate to people about your brand? What should people know about your purpose? Write it all down.

  1. Establish a voice for your company that aligns with your brand mission. This voice should be apparent in all aspects of your company: written material, visuals, all website material, and photographs.

  1. Come up with a tagline. Write a captivating, meaningful, attractive statement that expresses your brand purpose effectively.

  1. You’re halfway there! Understanding the basics of branding will only take another 1.5 minutes!

  1. Be consistent. Design templates and enforce standards for your marketing materials. Always use the same logo and color scheme.

  1. Be authentic in your communication. Your customers won’t care for your products or services, or even refer you or write positive reviews unless you are authentic in the way you communicate your brand purpose. They are coming to you for a reason. You have set the standard. Don’t fall short.

Now you have successfully been able to understand the basics of branding in under 3 minutes. Pretty simple, right?

Vodka soda, anyone? Alcohol consumption is something almost all of us are guilty of. Whether it’s used socially or privately, alcohol can seem like the perfect way to unwind after a long day.

But could it actually be self-sabotaging for your business? In this post, we discuss Alcohol and how it affects your photos. There are many reasons to refrain from drinking alcohol, but we are focusing specifically on the ones that can have a negative impact on your photos. Beware: reading this may cause you to think twice next time you go to crack open that bottle of wine.

Alcohol is dehydrating.

Ok, so I know this one is obvious, but it cannot be emphasized enough. Dehydration leads to a host of physical issues. It can cause headaches and brain fog. It also dries out your skin, leaving you looking washed out in photos. This Huffington Post article goes into detail about the dehydrating effects of alcohol on your skin.

Bloating and weight gain.

Didn’t your Uncle with the beer belly teach you anything? Alcohol consumption causes bloating in the short term and weight gain in the long term. Neither is a good look in photos and will likely leave you feeling less confident as you move throughout your day.

Lower immune system.

Alcohol lowers your immune system and makes you more susceptible to infections. How can you take good photos when you are too sick to even show up?

This list of alcohol and how it affects your photos provides great reasons for anyone to cut out their alcohol consumption, but it is especially important when you have a photo shoot coming up.

Let’s face it, no one is perfect and I realize you are still likely to give in to temptation and drink alcohol. I do hope that this article will cause you to cut back on alcohol consumption, or at least before a photo shoot. All of these effects can be detrimental to the product of your photos.

When doing business, people want to feel as though they’re communicating with a person, rather than a brand. Because of this, they tend to want to do business with brands that have a personal element to them over those that don’t. So, show ’em what you got! But first, you have to learn how to look and feel confident when you promote yourself.

Why should you confidently promote yourself as a part of your brand online? Think about the bigger picture and the ripple effect of the value you are bringing to your audience.

Showing your unique personality and charisma make the brand more personable. It might feel silly to you, but your message could be life-changing to someone else.

They might have an “aha” moment because of your authentic video. They might buy your product…because of the connection they made with YOU.

This is why it’s so important to learn how to look and feel confident when you promote yourself. Below are some simple steps you can take to help achieve quick results.

Step 1: Save the modesty for your mama! Don’t feel egotistical or shallow when promoting yourself. It’s important to showcase your strengths and believe in yourself in order for others to do the same.

Step 2: Remember that you are in control. Businesses solve problems. This means that people have problems that they need solved, and they need your product or service to solve their problems.

It’s not that you need them to watch your video… They need your video to help them solve their problems. Understanding this takes you from the interviewee position to the interviewer, so to speak.

Step 3: Just do it. And do it as often as possible. Everyone who started making videos felt weird in front of a camera at first. The more you do it, the more comfortable you become with it.

You will gain momentum and it will get easier and easier, just like it becomes easier and easier when you talk to people. Challenge yourself and make it a habit to be in front of a camera.

Step 4: Don’t fake it. Be authentic about your passion. When it’s just about making money, your authenticity won’t translate on camera.

Why are you selling this product or service? What point are you trying to get across to your audience, and why are you so passionate about it?

Answer those questions in your mind before you start recording, and your videos will connect with your audience because of the authenticity. You will feel more confident in your delivery when you are speaking your truth.

Together, these four steps will help you look and feel confident when you promote yourself and allow you to personally take your brand to a whole new level!

One of the most difficult aspects of starting a business is brand awareness – getting people to know who you are and what makes you unique.

The key to success goes beyond just having a great product or service. People want to know who you are as a company and what your brand represents before they buy from you.

Developing an authentic look for your brand can seem like an overwhelming task, but in this article, we break the process down into simple steps that will help you along the way.

Authenticity is a key ingredient in successful branding and it is synonymous with honesty. Honesty is extremely important and should work hand in hand with developing an authentic look for your brand.

Have integrity when presenting what you bring to the table. Be as enthusiastic as possible; you’ve got to believe in your brand before your audience will believe in it too. All of these elements will build your brand’s authority to entice people about your products or services.

Below, we have outlined some simple steps you can take that will aid in developing an authentic look for your brand.

Find your niche.

Know your target market. You can save a lot of time, energy, and money on wasted efforts if you thoroughly understand who your target market is and how to reach them. Check out this Forbes article for steps to find your niche.

Research your brand/company name – and register it.

It’s important that your brand name is unique to you and it’s connected to what you are offering. Do your research to understand which brand names have the best recall in your market. Doing a survey on your family, friends and acquaintances is a great starting point.

Make sure your domain name is the same or similar to your brand/company name.

Keeping your domain name consistent with your brand/company helps with brand recall.

Create a great logo.

A logo that stands out will build into the authentic nature of your brand. Create a couple of design options and survey those around you to understand what will catch your audience’s attention

Make sure your web or e-commerce site is attractive and easy to navigate.

Not all of your clients would be Internet savvy. Having a user-friendly site will help to expand your audience.

Be consistent in your messaging, regardless of the channel.

Consistency is the key. Have uniform content on all your ads that is clear and concise. Regardless of where or how they see you, consumers need to be able to recognize your brand/company immediately.

Establish yourself as an expert online.

Join communities. Build rapport. As the saying goes, “Patience is a virtue”- you need to build earn their trust. Make them interested at who you are and the rest will follow.

Blog and use social media.

Blogging allows you to express your brand on a whole new level. It adds interest to viewers and traffic to your website. Social media is another great tool to display your authenticity.

Choose networks that support your brand image. Make them interesting by providing valuable and shareable content. Leverage influencers; tag them on your posts or email them to have a more intimate and personal touch.

Include/publish reviews on your website.

Publishing reviews add to your legitimacy and convincing power.

Actively promote your brand offline.

Building your brand doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve built your brand online, it is time to promote offline. Create unique flyers, stickers and other promotional material that will appeal to your target audience to promote and build a presence for your brand.

Women Who Do Too Much

Working in the Brio Five office makes me realize how Sandy does too much, how many of the women she works with are doing too much. Women are constantly doing, going and not stopping. It’s admirable to see but it’s also very stressful. After seeing this pattern of women’s daily patterns I decided to do some research to see how much women are actually doing and what they can do to get relief.

Long nights, early mornings, and just a completely booked out calendar can seem like utter exhaustion. To most of these women, they see it as a natural cycle. There are so many women wearing multiple hats, caring for their families, running a business, while trying to uphold mass media beauty and fitness standards. Not only is this type of life overwhelming but it develops an acute and chronic stress.

Psychology Today touches on this “Acute stress that comes in the form of physical and mental symptoms, like fatigue, irritability, anxiety and tension, depression, headaches, shortness of breath, insomnia, disorganization and short-term memory problems. If it is a skill-deficit that makes your daily responsibilities hard to handle, then the mental and behavioral stress-management recommendations mentioned above will do much to alleviate the symptoms you feel.”

The subject of women who do too much is everywhere on Google searches because it is so common. Most women are overworked and want to find a way to combat their daily workload. With technology, life was supposed to get easier but it is not. We are constantly checking emails and our phones, which gives us something to do with a touch of a button. Most women want to do better and be better because of the gender pay gap as well. We make less and work more most of the time. It’s a constant struggle and women need a break.

It is time to take charge and organize your life, stop putting too many eggs in your basket. Take up something that makes you de-stress and relax twice a week. Such as yoga, dancing, spa days, or reading (an amazing read is “Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much”). Have your family do some chores and help you out for a change. Women need to realize they are already amazing and don’t have to do more to get there. It’s time to keep your schedule filled to the point where you do have days off. I know this may feel impossible but it’s time to ask for help. Time to think about what will make you feel better for a change, ask the questions why am I so busy and what can I do to help myself? What Makes a Great Brand and Why? – Business Branding Photographer

Starting a brand or in our case being a business branding photographer means you must research other competition, historic brands, and always ask what makes them a great brand and why?

We work with our clients to make sure they stand out while building a brand reputation that attracts their ideal clients. In this post we wanted to go over some of the most influential brands in the world, why they’ve had success, and what to learn from it. We love branding and the first thing to building a great brand is love what you are doing.

Loving Your Brand

See for instance, Ralph Lauren, he loves what he does.

The clothes that I design and everything I’ve done is about life and how people live and how they want to live and how they dream they’ll live. That’s what I do.”- Ralph Lauren

http://www.complex.com/style/2015/10/things-you-didnt-know-about-ralph-lauren/

He started one of the biggest fashion houses in the world, and his name is recognised all over the world. His designs, imagery, color choices, are ones you can recognise without even seeing the Ralph Lauren typeface or horse logo written in navy across them. He uses similar business branding and photographers so his style is consistent throughout his different labels. Ralph Lauren is that powerful, it has the “all american dream” written all over it. What’s so powerful about a brand like Ralph Lauren is that is allows people to express themselves.

Defining Great

Defining what your brand’s meaning is (your core message you want to show the world) defines a great brand. Even Coca-Cola had a mission which has been defining their brand for 125 years. They want “To refresh the world… and inspire moments of optimism and happiness…” which they do with their niche marketing, ads, visuals, and packaging which changes due to events, seasons, and their “make a difference” motto. The Coke logo is the best known trademark in the world. The Coca Cola logo has been the same since 1941. Their marketing has changed, but the classic Coca Cola bottles stay the same and are actually coveted for. They’ve created a historic brand, that is the most recognised brand in the world. They’ve defined what they wanted to stand for since 1887. Defining who and what you stand for, is huge, just look at what messages come to mind when you think of Coca Cola.

Knowing Your Audience

Knowing who your audience is everything when it comes to branding. One of the best brands to do this is Apple. Apple has always had commercials and  campaigns that appealed to a hip audience of ages 18 – 35. Even though people of all ages buy Apple products their branding is tailored to that target age group. Targeting who your branding will be sold to, will help brand your company. Apple has a simplicity set branding usually with their products photographed in the same styles against all white with their black logo. Their packaging is minimalist and sophisticated, which appeals to a millennial crowd. Apple knows their audience so well, it even made a campaign that made their buyers photographers. For the “Shot on Iphone” Campaign Apple crowdsources its customers photos to “display on billboards, bus stops and train stations, and it remained minimalistic, featuring a photograph, with the words: Shot on iPhone,”. Apple knows its audience, what it wants, and how devoted they are to the Apple brand.

So You’re Just Starting

If you don’t have one the biggest companies in the world and branding still seems like a pain. Then take things we learned above like loving your brand, staying authentic, defining what you want your brand to stand for, and knowing your target audience. Use these to brand your business for success, figure out what you stand for and who, to develop your colors, logos, messages and imagery.

If you need a business branding photographer with over 15 years of experience that can tell you the ins and outs of branding.
